While Susan is a minor character in-game, “collection management” is a real-world profession integral to museums, libraries and other curatorial institutions of all themes and sizes. When the player first meets Susan, she describes her distaste for the collection of “junk.” Nonetheless, Susan is the in-game collections achievement tracker, and will reward the player for finding objects throughout the game. It turned what should of been a bitter sweet triumph into just a frustrating slog.There is a character in Spiritfarer called the Collector, a well-dressed, finicky walrus who goes by the name of Susan.

Having him randomly fished out of the sea is demeaning and needlessly obtuse. Really though, you should get Stanley through a treasure map mailed to you around when you finish up the preceeding zone. Francis should have a triggered dialogue at some point, too. Bruce should give you a hint when you get the preceding upgrade, and a stronger hijtn by mail if you don't trigger it. If it has to be a triggered event, we need more BPC dialogue queues. It is pretty obvious that little thought was put into when you will need it and what you will be doing at that point. and randomly decided to fish.ĭon't get me wrong, I love the event and the spirit but gating the last zone behind it is silly, especially when the point you need to cross over you likely have 4 spirits and can't trigger it anyway. The only reason I managed to trigger it was because I noticed the northern snow storms were the only storm area without an associated resource event and was spending multiple day/night cycles trying to find something.

It really ruins the whimsical exploration feel and starts making it feel like an old school JRPG grind. especially when no spirits on board were consuming fish (and one actively disliked it). Now, by this point I'd done a fair bit of fishing, and I had a spirit who had given me heaps more fish, so I had absolutely no reason to fish any more. I spent 6 hours of my 25 hour playtime methodically searching for whatever thing I've clearly missed, since i had two spirits clamouring for me to get it -one for a quest, one for a house. Maybe it's like Bright Jelly's, but I can't find the right event for that either. You start thinking, maybe it's like Bottled Lightning. I only planted the fished one because the game prompted me that it was important.Įvery other gated resource is clearly marked or intuitive to find, but B.E. In theory you can get him from Francis as well, but I'd bought 30+ from him and just gotten junk, and by the point I had a spare slot on board the profit from the seeds was insignificant. This is probably too late in the Spiritfarer life cycle, but the way the last zone is gated behind Bottled Ectoplasm really ruins the pacing if the last third if you aren't fishing.
